Key Differences

What sets these two recipe apps apart.

Can Paprika import TikTok recipes?

No. Paprika only imports from websites with structured recipe data — it cannot handle video content from TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube. If you discover recipes on social media — which is how most people under 35 find recipes now — Paprika can't help you. Users often cobble together "Paprika + Substack + TikTok folders" as a DIY system. Preplo picks up where Paprika leaves off: paste a video link, get a real recipe with measured ingredients. I don't give a f*** about your video recipe if it doesn't have measurements

Does Paprika have AI features?

No. Paprika is a manual recipe manager — it's excellent at what it does, but it doesn't use AI. Preplo uses AI for recipe extraction, dietary adaptations (make any recipe vegan, spicy, dairy-free, or low-carb in one tap), and ingredient cost estimation. If you want a simple digital recipe box, Paprika works well. If you want smart features that save you time, Preplo is the better choice.

even for chefs and recipe creators I love... I just don't think even YT videos help much, or that you could do it just from watching the video only

How does Paprika's pricing compare to Preplo?

Paprika uses a one-time purchase model: $4.99 per mobile platform, $29.99 for desktop, plus $19.99/year for cloud sync. That means a full setup (phone + desktop + sync) costs $54.97 in year one and $19.99/year after. Preplo offers a free tier plus premium at $4.99/month, $39.99/year, or a $79.99 lifetime option. Paprika's one-time pricing appeals to users who dislike subscriptions, while Preplo's free tier lets you try before you buy.

Is Paprika good for YouTube cooking videos?

No. Paprika cannot extract recipes from video content — it only works with web pages that have structured recipe data. If a YouTube creator posts a blog with the recipe, Paprika can grab that, but the video itself is untouchable. Preplo analyzes the video directly, extracting ingredients, steps, and timestamps that link to the exact moment in the video. Learn more about our YouTube recipe extractor.

What the Community Says

Real feedback from recipe app users on Reddit.

Users cobble together "Paprika + Substack + TikTok folders" as a DIY system to organize video recipes — proof that no single app was solving this problem until now.

Recipe blogs feel "sponsored by malware" — impossible to use because of ads. Video recipes are the future, but they need proper structure.
